LETTER
FROM THE PUBLISHER

Hello Readers,
It is
amazing how fast 12 months can fly by—in retrospect.
Yes, this is our 12th issue of E RealEstateExec Las Vegas.
We are one year old next month, or you could say our 1st
anniversary together. I will share with you a personal side
note: I wake up every morning knowing that I love my job.
So, I want to thank you all who read this publication, advertise
with us, and share with us your excitement for it, because
then we at Exec MediaGroup, LLC know we are on the right
path to providing you with a quality trade publication for
the Real Estate industry.
To celebrate our happy
occasion, we will be having a cocktail party on Thursday,
October 11, from 5 to 7 at the Roadrunner Restaurant located
at the 215 & Flamingo. The space is limited, so it is
by invitation only. We will be sending those invitations
out any time now. If you want to be included, please contact
me directly.
The month of September
is very special to me for many reasons. Here are some:
- It is my birthday month! Selfish, I
know, but true. It is the one day in the year to feel really
special. I think birthdays should be celebrated. Even if
in the most quiet and subtle way, the day should be special.
- It is the birth month of my only child.
How much more special can that be?
- I have several family members, dear
friends and colleagues who also have birthdays this month.
I love Virgos! So, happy birthday Tiffany, Rita, Joyce,
Barbara, Jeffrey (who shares a birthdate with my son—so
his is extra special—and it is his 50th!), Aunt Regina,
“Aunt” Carmen, Nancy, Dave, Glen, my canine
niece (not by blood) Nicole (Barbara and Stephen’s
lovely Dalmatian), and believe it or not, there are more
just as worth mentioning but unfortunately I’m limited
on space.
- It is the month that that launches the
school year, which for me always meant new wonderful leather
school shoes. The smell of new leather shoes still takes
me back.
- It is a month of transition and new
births. It is a great month to recalibrate what you have
planned to accomplish this year and redirect the plan if
necessary.
This month’s issue
is a launch of a theme issue that will carry through in future
publications—at this time targeted for April. There
are many titles, subject lines and terms used for the subject
that we will only slightly touch on in this issue. You have
heard of global warming. (Brenda Calvin, our beloved writer
of Vertical Update, penned the phrase “Global Cooling”
as a positive approach to the apparent problem.) Newsweek’s
August 13 issue has the feature story on the cover “Global
Warming Is A Hoax.” This is perhaps the claim of well-funded
naysayers who still reject the overwhelming evidence of climate
change. Great read! And for sure, you have heard the term
“green” or “sustainability.” Well,
you will hear all of these terms in this issue and in our
future “green” issues.
We at Exec MediaGroup,
LLC and E RealEstateExec have made a commitment to you to
bring more of this topic and news with regard to not only
how you personally can make a difference, but also who in
our industry are making a larger push to help save our planet.
I don’t understand why we are looking at living on Mars
as a future home when we all have the capability to make small
life changes to save the planet that we currently call home.
Do we trash and destroy our homes just to leave them behind,
move on and buy new ones? No, of course not! Or better yet,
leave it for our children to deal with and then move on to
a cleaner, newer location. That would be silly. So, why do
that to our planet? Call me a tree-hugger and I would be proud
to wear that badge. However, I am just like a lot of you.
I lead a busy life, do not own a hybrid car, and the changes
that I can make are considered few—but interestingly,
they are impactive. So let’s take baby steps together
and in doing so we will move toward a better, cleaner, safer
life for everyone and for our children.
On a professional note,
we at Exec MediaGroup, LLC and E RealEstateExec have taken
the step to use recycled paper for all our monthly fliers
and reprint orders. We are also using recycled ink cartridges
in our printers. It is a start, and we are proud to have made
it.

you can make and calculate your own carbon footprint at http://www.carbonfootprint.com/.
Here are a couple of other
fabulous resources: Al Gore’s
“An Inconvenient Truth,” and the Discovery
Channel’s “Global Warming: What You Need to Know”
with Tom Brokaw.
If you know of a company,
organization or individual that would be a resource or a candidate
for a future “green” article please e-mail me
at lee@erealestateexec.com.
In this issue you will
read about Kenneth Smith, principal of GSG Development, developer
of Sullivan Square. Kenneth was specifically chosen for this
special issue because of his passion and commitment to sustainability
and green living. I have a personal affinity for Sullivan
Square. I think the concept puts a new spin on an old, great
idea of community living. It takes the best of the classic
version of the community and mixes in energy efficient and
environmentally sustainable living. Excellence and style all
wrapped up into a fabulous West Village neighborhood. I get
it, and I am so glad GSG is a developer in our town.
Profile articles this
month focus on Steve Bottfeld of Marketing Solutions and Crystal
Ball Seminars, and Charles Clawson II of Noble Title—two
very intelligent, successful and intelligent men. It was a
delight to get to know these gentlemen better.
As you will learn from
Doug Shields’ article on Steve Bottfeld, his background
and credentials highly support his reputation as a guru and
predictor in Real Estate markets. I am an avid participant
and fan of the quarterly Crystal Ball Seminars and one of
the main reasons is the information I gain from hearing Steve
and Larry Murphy speak. I share in Steve’s optimism
on the market. I feel that fear and the irresponsible news
reporting that perpetuates fear only hurts the consumer. If
you haven’t ever been to a Crystal Ball Seminar, give
it a try in October. Not only will you meet fabulous people
and learn many new interesting things about our business,
but you will inevitably have a belly laugh or two before the
end of the event.
When I first met Charles
Clawson, we could have spoken about customer service and measuring
customer satisfaction for hours. It was a delightful exchange
and I quickly learned why this highly educated (he is a lawyer
and CPA), very funny family man is as successful as he is.
You too will learn more about Charles in Michelle Savage’s
article Noble Title—Customer Service Fit for Royalty.
As always, we have our
fabulous and informational monthly columns as well.
Our National article this
month will feature a new writer for us but by no means new
to our publication. Tiffany Pace, our editor in chief, has
researched and shared her information on neighborhood environmental
reports. She has brought to us a subject that ties in environmental
issues and a reporting tool that just might help sell your
listings.
Design Connection by Stephen
Leon is on the First Friday Seminars at World Market Center.
I am looking forward to taking some of these.
Vertical Update with Brenda
Calvin this month is “Sustainable High-Rises and Planet
Earth: Residential High-Rises in the ’Carbon-Neutral’
Age.”
Legal Notes by John Benedict
is about ethics this month, titled “Practicing Good
Ethics in Real Estate.” I have learned over the years
that some people do not have the ethics gene, and so it is
important to talk about what it means every once in a while.
Over time, the meaning changes for some. That is why we have
a CE requirement for it. So here is our friendly reminder.
Our Technology article
by Rebecca Ragland is “Learning the Lingo: How to Talk
to a Webmaster About the Web Site You Have or the One You
Want to Build.” Rebecca always has a straightforward
way to bring a complicated subject to the masses and make
it simple and easy for the average Joe to reiterate. Thanks
Rebecca.
Lifestyle with Rita Templeton
is on alternative healthcare. While we are taking care of
the planet we can also take better care of ourselves holistically.
Enjoy this issue of E RealEstateExec
and if you have not done so, check out the EREE
Business Social Network. It is a simple way to expand
your “reach” and your avenues for additional revenue
streams. Happy networking!
Now, go buy yourself some
new leather shoes and feel the excitement of starting something
new.
